Photographs the hours with the least light. Helsinki.
Edda Lindqvist
01.01
Kaamos. Pallas fell, 12:40. No sunrise.
The hours
Twenty frames, each one placed on the clock
I work in the hours with the least light. Pick an hour below to see what was there, from the polar noon at 12:40 to the sun that never set at 00:10.

Series 01 / 04
Finnish Lapland December 2025 Personal work
From the third of December the sun stays under the fell. The day is a three-hour dusk that never gets past pink, so every frame is a long breath held on the tripod.
Series 02 / 04
Helsinki February 2026 Personal work
When the bay freezes half the city walks out onto it. I go at the edges of the day, when fog or a low sun does the work of a studio.
Series 03 / 04
Helsinki Nov 2025, for Kolmas Vuoro Editorial commission
Eleven nights on a magazine feature about the people who keep the city running between midnight and six. Each gave me ten minutes and the light they already had.
Series 04 / 04
Southern and central Finland June 2026, for Rantala Arkkitehdit Architecture commission
In June the sun skims the horizon all night. I photographed the buildings between eleven and one, when the walls are the colour of the light.
Commissions
Three kinds of work, always in the light that is there
Small crew, usually just me. I scout at the hour you need and bring a tripod, so please give me a week before the date.

Edda Lindqvist, Kallio, 15:10, in December. Photograph by a friend.
About
Edda Lindqvist
Born in Oulu in 1971, living in Helsinki. Edda trained as a darkroom printer before she took photographs of her own, and she still makes every print herself, in a rented room in Kallio that smells of fixer.
She works at the edges of the day: polar night, the first hour of fog on the frozen bay, the night shift, the white nights of June. She shoots colour negative film and turns down most commissions that need a flash.
